REVIEW: 2000 Domaine Paul Autard Chateauneuf-Du-Pape
January 9th, 2009 by Jeff
Color:
Bricky core with orange rim. The color of Raspberry tea.
Nose:
After 8 years in the bottle, it needed some time for the nose to open, but even then it was still pretty shy. Mainly dried herbs and cranberry with some tobacco store spiciness underneath.
Pallet:
Full bodied, very smooth, round tannins and fresh acidity. Black cherry and blackberry shine through the mint, pepper and smoke. A titch of cinnamon there, as well as a bit of earthiness in the mid-pallet. All tied up with a long clove tea finish.
This is still so fresh and juicy I’m sure another three years in the bottle would have caused it no degradation.
The Som Rating: 9/10 Scarlett Johansson Heads
